English I: This course is required for 9th grade students
and applies toward the 4 English credits requirement for
graduation. In this course, we focus on the following
skills areas: spelling, punctuation, grammar, dictionary
skills, expression, voice, and presentation. We work with
the following media and genre: non-fiction, fiction,
novels, drama, propaganda, films, and more. Please see
attached copy of Independent Reading test, as each
student is expected to read an additional 500 pages per
nine weeks. Students are expected to successfully
complete this course before taking English II. In the
event a student does not pass, he or she is expected to
take summer school prior to taking English II. For more

English II Honors: This course fulfills the 2nd English
credit toward graduation and is designed for sophomores
who have succcessfully completed English I Honors. In
this course, we are completely focused on preparing for
the AP exam, which the students will take at the end of
their senior year (Final Exam for the English IV AP
class). We also prepare accordingly for the OGT (Ohio
Graduation Test) which the sophomores take in March 2007.
This is a rigorous course in which we study the following
subjects and skills: literary analysis, literary
criticism, grammar, spelling, sentence
structure/variance, voice, expression, presentation,
penmanship, and more. Please note that this course
requires summer reading, a diagnostic vocabulary test and
extensive reading throughout the year (including seven
independent reading books). Please see attached
