Through a comprehensive Guidance program it is our intention to make your children’s school experience both positive and rewarding. The purpose is to promote and enhance the overall personal, academic, and career development of all students. The TSD School Counseling Program plays a significant roll in the district’s interest by providing opportunities for students to increase both their skills and assets to reach his/her full potential, to become a responsible citizen and a contributing member of a diverse society.

Mission Statement

To make a positive difference in the life
of every student. In support of this mission
we are committed to student success
in the areas of:

Personal Wellness
Academic Achievement
Career Readiness

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides a framework for intervention identification and a comprehensive continuum of services. Utilizing a structured protocol and district-adopted forms, referrals are made by any staff member who expresses concern about a student’s behavior, attendance, academic, or health needs. Through a team-based approach, all TSD employees are trained to look for warning signs of distress. Teams at each building create individualized action plans to assist the student and provide supports for success.

The Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets is the foundation by which the Guidance and Student Assistance Programs operate. Developmental Assets are the building blocks of positive growth and development. They provide the framework for children to receive the necessary tools to grow up to become caring, responsible adults.

The earlier we can build a foundation for our students, the more skills and resources they will have when they are presented with challenging decisions and tough choices later on in life. Assets are internal (things that develop within young people themselves) and external (things that other people provide for youth).

All youth need assets to protect them from making harmful choices and to help them grow into happy, successful adults. Relationships are key to developing these important skills in life. The Talawanda School District and Oxford community are committed to taking a proactive approach to ensure that our youth have the skills, values and relationships necessary to help them grow into contributing members of society.
