Ohio's report card system shows the progress of school districts across the state in four ways. The four measures listed below are the basis for assigning state designations:

* Indicators - There are 26 indicators on the 2010 State Report Card. They include Ohio Achievement Tests (grades 3-8) and Ohio Graduation Test (grade 10), attendance, and graduation rate indicators. Talawanda students continue to make significant gains across the reading, writing, math, science, and social studies curriculum.
Talawanda students achieved 24 out of 26 indicators.

* The Performance Index reflects the achievement of every tested student. The score is a weighted average of all tested subjects in grades 3-10. The most weight is given to the students who score within the advanced rates.

* Performance Index Improvement indicates the performance index score over time. The goal is 100. Talawanda achieved a 100.9%. Talawanda students achieved 100.9% and has improved their performance index by 9% over the past eight years.


* Adequate Yearly Progress is measured by students within the disadvantaged population (race, socioeconomic, English as a Secondary Language, and students with a disability. Every student must be at or above the annual goals or make improvement over the last year. Talawanda is showing growth in all areas.
Talawanda students achieved AYP in all subgroup areas in 2008 and 2009. An area of focus monitoring student progress, implementing inquiry instruction in reading, math, and science, and targeting reading instruction specifically within grades 5-8 within the special education sub-group.

* Valued Added Analysis is a metric system used to measure student growth (achievement and progress) over time. Talawnada students have exceeded the anticipated growth for two of the last three years!

The state report card is used as an accountability issue for all districts, schools, and teachers to use in order to measure their yearly progress. Talawanda School District continues to strive for academic gains and has remained in the "Excellent" rating for the 2009-2010 school year. The Talawanda staff and administration continue to be committed to achieving excellence as they continue to make annual progress on the state report card.
